The pool was the Dojo this week. After being away from swimming for more than five years I got back into a pool.
I spent some time wondering about how my particular body takes support from the water. Then how I roll from front to back and back to front without effort, with pleasure, with breathing and reversibly. And often how I don’t do that. Maybe it can be called Aquareness Through Movement.
Eventually I took some short swims to see how I swim, not to do a lap. It a obvious that I turn one way very easily and the other with difficulty. When I last swam I could not sense this so I could not improve. Now it is obvious so a great opportunity for learning and improvement.
I finished off (couldn’t resist) doing a couple of laps. Two things are clear: my stroke is better than it was; easier, more pleasant and, as I know how to learn, I can improve also with pleasure.
